DIGITAL PROJECT
SHOWCASE (LX)

I have served as a Creative Director, Visual Designer, UX/UI Designer, Interaction Designer, Graphic Designer and Illustrator in the name of improving outcomes for clients. I have had the good fortune of designing and delivering international, corporate training programs, edutainment, learning simulations and products in iterative, agile, start-up environments.

SAMPLE WORK

CV

I've designed and built very customized corporate training projects that helped people safely land a 747, or know the laws and regulations regarding the sale of property. Often the projects were part of national, enterprise-wide, training programs, and simply skinning something off the shelf won't do for the client, or the user. Designing interactive experiences meant frequent involvement with the client and their learners (users), ensuring their rigorous standards were met, while constantly testing the digital product, build after build.

I like the idea of designing custom digital products to facilitate interactions for each unique client and their needs. Just let me meet the users and stakeholders, know the tech specs, dimensions and platform, and I'm going put our ideas through the paces and sprints. From the BRD to interviews, to personas and userflows, to wireframes and prototypes, then to QA, testing and rework, I've been there...in English and French.

NAV CANADA ELT PROOF OF CONCEPT

My UX wireframes for a learning simulation for Nav CANADA are included here to show process. I have also included screens of the final sim. Nav CANADA was a return client with the corporate training company I worked for. Nav Canada needed to immerse learners in a simulation dealing with conceptual aspects of very specific safety parameters.

Accuracy and rigor was essential when designing the simulation delivered on their intranet. My role on the project also included the creative direction, UI/UX, visual design, production graphics, and animation keyframes. The proof of concept was accepted and Nav Canada became a client for numerous large-scale projects.

NAV CANADA GLIDE PATH SIMULATion

We spent time with the flight service specialists and they helped us determine which parts of their dashboards were the most essential, and also where the most errors get made by trainees. The object of the product is to successfully adjust the simulated tower beacon signals without error.

My role on the project also included the creative direction, UX, UI, creation and delivery of all vector assets, production graphics and styles. Built in English and French.

BAY TECHNICIAN SIMULATOR

Earlier in my career I had a great opportunity work on a very comprehensive piece of edutainment for a reputable oil change franchise. Over the span of a few months I produced hundreds of custom vector graphics, illustrations, UI controls, palettes and reusable design assets. The UX was a team experience at the time, shared between myself, the Developer, and the Instructional Designer.

For example, I was tasked with site maps and building them from the user journeys captured by the ID. We also went onsite to the bays to gather research for creating believable scenarios where service excellence could be taught and then measured.

SNAKES AND LADDERS/SCRATCH & WIN!

Quite often there was pressure to reduce, reuse, and recycle without sacrificing the experience. I have included examples of games built using a scratch-built game grid and assessment engine. The scalability of the template allowed me to customize the experience for a variety of clients with completely different technology environments.

I have included samples of 2 unique experiences designed for complete different client needs. Both featured a similar respons model, however points could also be awarded for progress depending on the assessment needs of the client.

GifT GENIE MOBILE

To graduate from my UX program I put an app idea I had through all the stops with the latest principles in human centered design. I developed a promising proof of concept which took me from initial user research through to wireframes and style guides for the potential app.

AIRCRAFT DATABASE

This small tool was used as part of a larger training solution designed for Nav Canada. It was a wonderful exercise in information management while getting to nerd-out on the content. A brilliant Developer and I were able to come up with this vector-based app that has simple UI and flat design.

SHANWICK AUTOMATED AIR TRAFFIC SYSTEM

In this case we built a product to support another product, SAATS was built using proprietary software that was scorm-compliant. I was encouraged by interviewees to try and build rapport between the software itself and the reluctant users when designing the experience - and it visibly helped the user keep track of their progress while using the training product.

STARR SCENARIO PRODUCT

The  STARR Scenario Product was a true, in-house product we designed as a team. Users often found themselves lost in other training programs. They wanted to trace their steps through the story that they themselves would create as they encountered real workplace scenarios. The shell was vector based, allowing for scalability, and the XML based engine was a delight to customize for each new client.

NOVA SCOTIA REALTOR
CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

This product won an award in 2014. That's when I knew it was time to move on. It was designed to allow realtors to advance their career at their own pace by purchasing lessons as they need them, and skip ones they were cleared for.

UX CAPSTONE & Certificate

I chose the Springboard UX certificate program to brush up on the processes I've adhered to most of my career. UX has evolved for the better and now businesses are recognizing how user experience is not just about a tidy web page that sells widgets. That page selling widgets will have a much better chance at successfully improving sales, for example, if you get involved with the types of folks the widgets are designed for.

Listening to those people can help a designer get those widgets in their hands faster and easier. I care about the happiness of the end user, since I dislike being an unhappy user myself. I also like getting to know the end users, as I hope my capstone illustrates.

THANK YOU!

If time permits please check out the rest of my work. A variety of projects can be accessed from the ABOUT & CONTACT page as well as the home page. My portfolio site is undergoing some rework, and efforts to convert pages to mobile are ongoing.

I have delivered UX /UI & Visual Design for numerous products in any modality that was sent my way, rapidly, while adhering to process. I can adapt with the constant flux of technology, like always
